Commending Pat Taylor.

WHEREAS, Pat Taylor, an advocate for crime victims, was presented the President's Volunteer Service Award by President George W. Bush on February 3, 2007, in Newport News; and

WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Newport News, Pat Taylor began volunteering with crime-fighting organizations including Peninsula Crime Line and the Crime Watch Coalition after suffering a personal tragedy in 1991; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Pat Taylor's volunteer efforts have become more focused on helping and advocating for crime victims, and she has become actively involved with organizations such as the Peninsula Crime Victims Council, which provides counseling and support to crime victims and trains community volunteers to work with crime victims; and

WHEREAS, also keenly devoted to helping young people, Pat Taylor is on the Newport News Commission on Youth and helps coordinate the Commission's annual Middle School Summit, which is an educational program designed to discourage youth violence; and

WHEREAS, Pat Taylor also works with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula to establish a computer education program for adults where the classes would be taught by youth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Pat Taylor for her outstanding service to the citizens of Newport News and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pat Taylor as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for her efforts to support victims of crime and help young people make positive choices.
