Celebrating the life of William Inman Dillon.

WHEREAS, William Inman Dillon, a beloved leader in the community of Hampton Roads, died at the age of 61, on January 24, 2007; and

WHEREAS, William “Bill” Dillon was born in Charlottesville on December 5, 1945, graduated from Blue Ridge High School and Tidewater Community College, and attended Old Dominion University; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dillon served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dillon worked for the Virginian-Pilot for 35 years as an advertising and marketing representative; and

WHEREAS, devoted to improving the lives of children, Bill Dillon served on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters and was a Big Brother for many years; and

WHEREAS, for the last decade of his life, Bill Dillon dedicated his efforts to the work of ForKids, an organization committed to ending the cycle of homelessness and poverty for children and families in Hampton Roads; and

WHEREAS, as a volunteer, member of the board of directors, and board president, Bill Dillon helped to create the ForKids Permanent Supportive Housing program, One Church One Week, and other programs that have helped change the lives of hundreds of children and families in Hampton Roads; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dillon would come to the ForKids shelter to play his guitar and read to the children, demonstrating clearly to them that they were important to him and the community; and

WHEREAS, a man of faith, Bill Dillon was a leader at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, where he served as a senior warden, chairman of missions and ministry, and a member of the executive board of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dillon was an inspiration to all around him and remained positive throughout his battle with cancer; his favorite saying was “Live life to the fullest,” and he did that until his final days; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dillon will be fondly remembered and forever missed by his devoted wife Cindy Barham Dillon, his daughter Stephanie Crossette Dillon, his brother Lucius Polk Dillon III, his sister Margaret Psimas, and his loving friends and coworkers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of an outstanding community leader and fine Virginian, William Inman Dillon; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to family of William Inman Dillon as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the House of Delegates.
