A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 33.1 a section numbered 33.1-223.2:17, relating to the Commonwealth Transportation Board; display of the United States flag on interstate highways.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 33.1 a section numbered 33.1-223.2:17 as follows:

§ 33.1-223.2:17. Rules and regulations for the display of the United States Flag on interstate highways.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board shall establish rules and regulations providing for the display of the flag of the United States along interstate highways in the Commonwealth by military veterans' organizations. Such rules and regulation shall include, but not be limited to, provisions relating to the (i) size of the flag to be displayed, (ii) proper illumination, and (iii) the manner placement of the display so as to ensure proper respect for the flag and to prevent any road hazard or distraction to vehicular traffic.

The rules and regulations when adopted by the Commonwealth Transportation Board shall be posted in a conspicuous place at each display site, along with other signs as the Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner considers necessary to advise the public.
