Commending Linda Trexler.

WHEREAS, Linda Trexler, outstanding principal of Neabsco Elementary School of the Prince William County Public Schools, was named a 2006 Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Awards, Principal of Excellence winner; and

WHEREAS, the Washington Post Educational Foundation presents the annual awards to outstanding citizens in the Washington community who day after day go beyond the demands of their highly demanding profession to create exceptional educational environments for Washington area students; and

WHEREAS, highly respected by her students and their families, as well as her colleagues, Linda Trexler also was honored with the distinguished Prince William County Principal of the Year award for 2006; and

WHEREAS, Linda Trexler earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education in 1971 and a master of counseling and development degree in 1990 and a master of administration and supervision degree in 1999, all from George Mason University; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated educator with vast experience, Linda Trexler served as assistant principal at Mount View Elementary School in Haymarket and Tyler Elementary School in Gainesville, and as a classroom teacher at Marumsco Hills Elementary School in Woodbridge; and

WHEREAS, Linda Trexler was an exemplary school counselor at River Oaks and Neabsco Elementary schools in Woodbridge, before becoming Neabsco Elementary principal in 1999; and

WHEREAS, a visionary leader with vast experience, Linda Trexler has guided Neabsco Elementary in becoming a fully accredited school, a model of instructional improvement, and a School of Excellence in the Prince William County Public School system; and

WHEREAS, during Linda Trexler's tenure as principal, the determined students of Neabsco Elementary School, aided by the hard work and dedication of their excellent teachers, have achieved a 90.1 percent pass rate in math and a 91.4 percent pass rate in language arts, an extraordinary accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, Linda Trexler is an exceptional leader and a gifted administrator, but her most admirable quality is her ardent devotion to the education and well-being of her students; and

WHEREAS, Linda Trexler treats students with respect, expects them to be responsible citizens, and fosters positive school-community relationships by involving students, parents, and school neighbors; and

WHEREAS, enthusiastic students wrote a song and made festive banners and celebrated, along with the proud teachers and other staff of the Neabsco Elementary School, Linda Trexler’s well-deserved Principal of Excellence recognition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Linda Trexler as an outstanding recipient of the 2006 Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda Trexler as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for her dedication to the young people of Woodbridge and the Commonwealth.
