Commending the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team.

WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team won the Virginia High School League Group A state championship on November 11, 2006, beating out 16 other teams from around the state; and

WHEREAS, the win represents an astonishing third consecutive state title for the Clarke County Eagles, and they won handily, scoring 46 points compared to 82 points for runner-up Altavista High School; and

WHEREAS, in a field of over 120 athletes, the Eagles were led by sophomore Sophia Holmes, who finished in second place just behind the winner, while sophomore Erin Broy grabbed sixth place and junior Danielle Moyer came in 11th; and

WHEREAS, rounding out the Eagles' top five, freshman Samantha Wiltrout finished 18th and junior Bettina Zimmer finished 30th; and

WHEREAS, the spectacular performance of the 2006 Clarke County girls' cross country team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the team members; the leadership of Coach Nancy Specht and her staff; and the support of the students, faculty, and parents of Clarke County High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team on its Virginia High School League Group A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Nancy Specht as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the Eagles' triumphant 2006 season.
