Commending Mountain City Lodge No. 67, AF & AM, on the occasion of its 150th anniversary.
Patrons-- Hanger and Deeds

WHEREAS, in 2007, Mountain City Lodge No. 67, AF & AM, in Lexington, part of the nation's oldest and largest fraternal organization, celebrates 150 years of dedication to the Freemasons' goal of encouraging personal growth, leadership, fellowship, education, and service; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67, with nine founding members, received its charter from the Grand Lodge of Virginia on December 15, 1857; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 held meetings in different places for its first 59 years, but since 1916, members have gathered in a building purchased by the lodge on the corner of Nelson and Jefferson streets in historic downtown Lexington; and

WHEREAS, to mark this important milestone in its history, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 has many events planned during the year, with a grand celebration to take place on September 29, 2007, that will be attended by the current Grand Master of Virginia and his Grand Line Officers as well as past Grand Masters; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 is an important part of the Lexington community, supporting numerous charities and organizations including the Boy Scouts, Rockbridge Area Free Clinic, Rockbridge Area Relief Association, Yellow Brick Road Early Learning Center, Rockbridge Area Hospice, Salvation Army, and the Lexington Fire Department and sponsoring two scholarships for local high school students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Mountain City Lodge No. 67, AF & AM, on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mountain City Lodge No. 67, AF & AM, as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for many more years of activity and service.
