Description
Real estate tax; limitation on tax rate. Provides that the total tax revenue in a locality may not exceed 105% of the total tax revenue in the locality in the immediately prior year unless approved by at least a two-thirds majority vote of the local governing body. The bill applies for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2009. Read the Bill »

Providing the option of a veto to a minority group on an elected body infringes on the rights of the majority of those elected officials who, by definition, represent the majority of the locality's residents and taxpayers.
