This bill will help address concerns expressed about the exploitation of undocumented workers to the advantage of unscrupulous employers and to the detriment of authorized workers by strengthening the criminal sanctions for aggregious wage law violations.
The bill will help level the economic playing field for employers and workers who play by the rules and mitigate the incentive currently present for employers to hire undocumented workers who are perceived to be without the power or interest to demand fair wages.
It is vital to enforce the laws on the books. If the laws aren't enforced, what is the point of having them? Our society functions as it does because we obey the laws and they are applicable to all. If employers cheat the system, skirt the law, and exploit undocumented workers then we all suffer. It's time that we either enforce the laws we do have, or change them so that they apply equally to all employers. No more rewarding the law breakers!
