Could this be construed to penalize some one who gives an 'alien' a ride, or a few dollars, or some food?

Mary Steele writes:

That's too lenient. We must get tough.

Some say that it would be inhumane or we should have compassion for them, why, they have already started out by breaking our laws when they entered this country illegally. What else are they willing to do to get what they want? Let me name some-they commit identity theft, kill, rape, molest our kids and rob us. Again, why should they not be held accountable for crimes they have already committed, and be required apply to come here just like everybody else has, and like the ones waiting their turn outside of this country?

frances roehm writes:

So called illegal immigrants are in fact economic refugees. This whole issue is bogus. Our politicians are using this issue as a front to keep from addressing the real issues, like the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. We should not fall for this ploy once again. Economic refugees should be accorded the same respect and human decency that we would want for ourselves. I have nothing but respect for those who are willing to pick our crops, clean our toilets, care for our children and perform all of the other jobs that average americans consider to be beneath thier dignity and all the while subsidizing our way of life.

Anonymous writes:

Mary, Mary, it is quite to the contrary.

The undocumented commit crimes at a lesser rate than citizens! Surprised? Knowledge is power.

In many cases they crossed a dessert and risked their lives to get here Mary. Not by chance, but by choice. They chose to become a part of this country. You were very likely born here, no? I wonder how much more American they are for choosing to become a part of this country with all the risks taken, than you!

Tony Rogers writes:

The fact is that these people entered the country illegally. No matter how you slice it any act which stems from the illegal act is still illegal.

These people are not economic refugees. They're thieves. It takes documentation to work in this country legally. If they forge the documents to work they're thieves. If you don't agree please post your complete name, address, birthdate, social security number and mother's maiden name on this site.

Waldo Jaquith writes:

The serious problem with this bill is that it requires average citizens to know what "benefit, service, status, or privilege" is not accorded to people here without documentation. I don't have the slightest idea of what those things would be. If I stop to help some guy broken down by the side of the road, and I somehow know that he's in the country without permission, how do I know what I can do for him?

The man who was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho, and was set upon by thieves -- I wonder if he had his papers in order for that trip? When the Levite and the priest walked past him and refused to help, were they simply doing their duty as proposed by Del. Tata? And what of the Samaritan? Would we charge him with a crime for bandaging the man and putting him up in an inn?

Clare Murphy writes:

The debate is about the rule of law. We are a nation of laws for the good of all...not just for some in a special group...WHATEVER that group may be. I am a teacher, and we all teach that cutting up in line ahead of others and letting your friends cut in with you is and has always been unfair. The rule of law protects us all from anarchy.

Gregg Reynolds writes:

Unfortunately laws are not always good and do not always protect people. Even the Constitution, that requires Congress to declare war, has been unable to protect the millions of people (including thousands of Americans) that have been killed since Congress last declared war in 1941. It boils down to two groups, One group cares more about themselves than others and the other group cares as much or more about others as themselves. If you fall into the first group you generally like these bills. If you fall into the second group you don't.

Junes-Reston writes:

Fairfax County in particular has become a sanctuary county, looking the other way as illegal aliens avail themselves of benefits and services to which they are not entitled, at the tax payers expense.

Illegal aliens are entitled to, by Federal Law, Emergency Health Care and Basic Education.

In Fairfax County, illegal aliens avail themselves of Kaiser Permanente HMO non-emergency care, food stamps, WIC, before and after school programs, school lunch programs -- none of which are available to illegal aliens according to VA.

Unfortunately, counties and the commonwealth do not enforce existing laws, and our tax dollars are frittered away on a group of people who lie, cheat and steal from legal residents on a daily basis.

If ever there were a need to enact legislation that punished local agencies personnel and non-profit charities that continually "look the other way" as they blatantly and deliberately violate our laws, it is this one.

Tracy Ingram writes:

The FACT is. they broke the law, and looked for sanctuary areas, and now, the ones they found, are in turmoil and suffering, Fairfax County which was very lenient and against any action against illegal aliens found themselves full of illegal boarding houses, that they are now forced to find and close down.
Now, the owners of these rat traps, take the rent and deposits and skip out leaving the property in arrears and foreclosures are up 800% and climbing, property values are down 10%, property taxes are climbing, and we are still PAYING via taxes for this CHEAP source of labor, so YOU are subsidizing this LOW COST LABOR, instead of the employers. THATS GREAT !!!

What a plan.

These people crossed the border illegally, no background check, no medical checks, no nothing, THATS GREAT,
What a plan.

Tuberculosis ?

On the rise in Fairfax and other areas, THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS !!!

Dont tell ME they are refugees and to be lenient, GET THEM OUT AND BACK IN THE LINE, we have rules and laws for a REASON.
