Commending the Ocean View Lions Club on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Ocean View Lions Club of Norfolk will observe the 75th anniversary of its founding and is recognized for its longtime commitment to serve and improve the community; and

WHEREAS, on October 2, 1933, the Ocean View Lions Club was organized with a nucleus of 20 members, all dedicated volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest community service organization with clubs around the world; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Ocean View Lions Club have raised funds through promoting bingo games and annual broom and white cane sales; and

WHEREAS, to assist individuals with sight problems in reading documents, the Ocean View Lions Club donated a new Video Eye for the new Pretlow Library in Ocean View at a cost of $3,000; and

WHEREAS, the Ocean View Lions Club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in the local community and whose volunteer efforts go beyond the support of vision care to address unmet health and education needs worldwide; and

WHEREAS, the Ocean View Lions Club has been proud of its sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop 5 over the years, as well as being active participants in the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade; and

WHEREAS, the Ocean View Lions Club has raised funds and has given monetary donations to the American Heart Association, American Kidney Fund, American Cancer Society, Lions Medical Eye Bank and Hearing Research Center, Joy Fund, Boy Scouts of America Tidewater Council, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, food banks of area churches, Abused Children’s Home, Salvation Army, and the Learning Resource Center at Virginia Wesleyan College; and

WHEREAS, through the perseverance and support of its many outstanding members, the Ocean View Lions Club has provided invaluable service to the Norfolk community for 75 years and lived up to its motto, “We Serve”; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Ocean View Lions Club on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the members of the Ocean View Lions Club as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for the club’s commitment to the citizens of Norfolk and the Commonwealth.
