It is a one-time license that expires one year from the date of purchase and does not require the licensee to complete a hunter education course. The fee for obtaining the license would be $10 for residents and $20 for nonresidents. Great idea. Please pass this bill. I took up hunting just a few years ago as an adult and believe me when I say that it is very difficult for someone to start doing this out of nowhere if you didn't grow up with it. If it weren't for the fact that I had family-owned land on which to start hunting under license-exempt status, I would not have taken up the activity.

Now I get a license every year and hunt on public land all over Virginia and when my daughter is old enough I will teach her to hunt as well. I am living proof that the reduction in numbers of licensed hunters can be countered through recruitment of non-hunting adults. But you've got to give people like me an opening to get in through.

I agree Jackson Landers.
I had Hunter Safety back when I was in High School. Yes, guns in school.
Teach your kids to hunt and you wont be hunting for your kids.
