Commending John Coleman.

WHEREAS, John Coleman, an admired resident of Reston, was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2008 Best of Reston award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, since 1994, John Coleman has worked at South Lakes High School as its outstanding safety and security assistant, charged with maintaining a safe and secure campus for students and staff; and

WHEREAS, John Coleman has consistently exceeded the expectations of his job, and he works tirelessly to engage youth and others in the community in positive activities; and

WHEREAS, an avid supporter of all of the students of South Lakes High School, John Coleman has established and sponsored the Latino Club, the Break Dancing Club, and the Double Dutch Team, each of which encourages positive behavior and academic performance, builds self-esteem, and provides a safe, after-school environment for numerous students each year; and

WHEREAS, John Coleman also works to bring the school and the Reston community together, and he has worked diligently to help deter gangs and drug usage in the Stonegate community, as well as collected furniture and clothing donations for families in crisis; and

WHEREAS, a positive role model and a great mentor for young people, John Coleman often provides his compassion, expertise, and guidance to school administrators, faculty, and students on school matters; and

WHEREAS, committed to the community of Reston, John Coleman also serves as an invaluable member of the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council; and

WHEREAS, in 2003, John Coleman was honored with Fairfax County’s A. Heath Onthank Award, the highest honor the county can bestow upon an employee; and

WHEREAS, John Coleman has worked with great energy and dedication to help improve the lives of the residents of Reston; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate John Coleman for his outstanding service to the citizens of Northern Virginia and for receiving a 2008 Best of Reston award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Coleman as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for his many efforts on behalf of the community of Reston.
