SJ241: Celebrating the life of Eugene C. Renzi.
WHEREAS, Eugene C. Renzi, a retired United States Army Major General who spent much of his time serving his country and his community of Springfield, Virginia, died on February 9, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Renzi was born and grew up in East Boston, Massachusetts, and attended high school at Watertown High School in Watertown, Massachusetts, where he was an acclaimed football and track and field athlete who set numerous school records and was inducted into the Watertown High School Athletic Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Renzi received both his bachelor’s in business administration and master’s in education from Northeastern University, where he continued to excel in football and track and field and was inducted into the Northeastern Sports Hall of Fame in 1985; and
WHEREAS, during his 32-year career in the United States Army, Eugene Renzi completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and served as deputy chief of staff for operations and plans for the United States Army Strategic Communications Command at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, as director of Defense Communications Systems in Washington, and as director for command and control and communication systems for the United States Pacific Command at Camp H.M. Smith in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Renzi was honored for his service, leadership, and bravery with several medals, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal with oak leaf clusters, Legion of Merit with oak leaf clusters, and Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf clusters; and
WHEREAS, upon retirement from the United States Army, Eugene Renzi became a senior executive at ManTech International, where he effectively managed corporate business development relative to defense communications; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Renzi also enjoyed volunteering his time with the United Way of America, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, and the United States-Panama Business Association, and he also experienced great pleasure from serving as commissioner of youth football in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Renzi married the late Faye Marie Renzi in 1957, and he will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by their five children, 23 grandchildren, and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Eugene C. Renzi, a respected and patriotic Virginian; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Eugene C. Renzi as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
