Commending Charles Reamy.

WHEREAS, Charles Reamy, who has served as the mayor of Boydton for eight years with great distinction, will step down in May 2008; and

WHEREAS, after proudly serving more than 20 years on the Boydton Town Council, Charles Reamy accepted appointment as mayor in 1999 and was elected to the office the next year; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Boydton has greatly benefited from the outstanding leadership of Charles Reamy, nicknaming him the “Revitalization Mayor” as he spearheaded many efforts to preserve the town’s history by seeking approval to establish a historic district and improving the community by installing curbs, gutters, streetlights, and benches and removing overhead utility wires; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his duties as mayor, Charles Reamy is the director of the Boyd Tavern Foundation, an ex officio board member of Historic Boydton’s Renaissance, Inc., and serves in various capacities with the Citizens Community Bank, the Olde Towne Club, the Boydton United Methodist Church, the Mecklenburg County Planning Commission, and the Roanoke River Service Authority; and

WHEREAS, Charles Reamy honorably and courageously served in the United States Armed Forces and was a volunteer firefighter for the Boydton Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, the small Town of Boydton, nestled away in southern Virginia, is a vibrant community, and much of its prosperity can be credited to the leadership provided by Charles Reamy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Charles Reamy be hereby commended on his commitment and service to the Town of Boydton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles Reamy as an expression of the Senate’s appreciation for his outstanding public service to Boydton and the Commonwealth.
