Description
Claims; Arthur Lee Whitfield. Provides relief in the amount of $632,867 to Arthur Lee Whitfield, who was incarcerated between 1982 and 2004 after being convicted of rape, sodomy and robbery. Forensic testing conducted in 2004 exonerated Mr. Whitfield and led to his release on parole by the Virginia Parole Board on August 23, 2004. The payment of the award will be in an initial lump sum equal to 20 percent of the total compensation award to be paid on December 15, 2009 and the remaining 80 percent to purchase an annuity to be paid out in monthly payments over 25 years commencing August 1, 2010. In addition, the bill entitles Mr. Whitfield to receive up to $10,000 for tuition for career and technical training within the Virginia Community College System. Read the Bill »
