HJ634: Constitutional amendment; General Assembly may provide by law school boards responsibility.
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, a majority of the members elected to each house agreeing, That the following amendment to the Constitution of Virginia be, and the same hereby is, proposed and referred to the General Assembly at its first regular session held after the next general election of members of the House of Delegates for its concurrence in conformity with the provisions of Section 1 of Article XII of the Constitution of Virginia, namely:
Amend Section 7 of Article VIII of the Constitution of Virginia as follows:
Section 7. School boards.
The supervision of schools in each school division shall be vested in a school board, to be composed of members selected in the manner, for the term, possessing the qualifications, and to the number provided by law. However, the General Assembly may provide by general law or special act that responsibility for supervision of schools may be exercised by a local governing body and the locality's chief administrative officer.
