Commending Carolyn LeCroy.

WHEREAS, Carolyn LeCroy of Norfolk was named one of CNN’s 10 heroes of 2008; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn LeCroy created a program, known as The Messages Project, which provides incarcerated persons in Virginia the means to communicate with their families and friends; and

WHEREAS, in 1999 Carolyn LeCroy and other volunteers began the project at the Virginia Correctional Center for Women in Goochland; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, this program has expanded to record nearly 3,000 video messages, poems, stories, and wishes from inmates to their children, families, and friends; and

WHEREAS, The Messages Project has worked at least three times a year in six state prisons in the Commonwealth and has shown to be successful in providing inmates ways to communicate with their loved ones; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Carolyn LeCroy for her dedicated service and leadership that have helped so many within the Commonwealth, especially those incarcerated in state prisons and their families; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carolyn LeCroy as an expression of the General Assembly’s high regard for her deeds for the community and its sincere hope that she will continue this honorable service and leadership that benefit many in Virginia.
