Celebrating the life of Georgie Mae Drummond Taylor.

WHEREAS, Georgie Mae Drummond Taylor of the small community of Craddockville in Accomack County, a dedicated community volunteer, died on March 2, 2008; and

WHEREAS, a native of Craddockville, Georgie Taylor was the loving daughter of Harry W. and Dorothy Turner Drummond Dail; and

WHEREAS, devoted to her family, Georgie Taylor married the love of her life, Samuel Taylor, and they had three wonderful children; and

WHEREAS, a longtime community volunteer, Georgie Taylor generously gave of her time and talents as a United Methodist Women area leader for 20 years, past president of the Debedeavon Garden Club, decorating cochairman of the Shore Antique Show, volunteer at the local foodbank, and member of the Red Hat Society; and

WHEREAS, when diagnosed with cancer, Georgie Taylor became actively involved with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, an overnight fundraiser that raises awareness of cancer prevention and treatment as well as honors cancer survivors and remembers loved ones; and

WHEREAS, desiring to help others in her community who had cancer, Georgie Taylor was instrumental in forming the Eastern Shore Breast Cancer support group, which provides support and encouragement to those with breast cancer; and

WHEREAS, Georgie Taylor’s strong will and zest for life during a seven-year battle with cancer inspired those around her; she remained actively involved with her family, friends, and community work; and

WHEREAS, Georgie Taylor will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Samuel; her children, Dorothy, Turner, and Samuel and their families; and many friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine community volunteer and outstanding Virginian, Georgie Mae Drummond Taylor; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Georgie May Drummond Taylor as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
