HJ977: Commending Gabby Gatten.
WHEREAS, Gabby Gatten, a junior at Southampton Academy, is commended for scoring her 1,000th career point, the first female at Southampton Academy to do so; and
WHEREAS, Gabby Gatten, the daughter of Burdette and Joann Gatten, began playing basketball at the age of eight; she played at the YMCA and the Amateur Athletic Union summer leagues before attending Southampton Academy; and
WHEREAS, a hard worker and dedicated player, Gabby Gatten practices her shots year-round, including most days during the summer; and
WHEREAS, Gabby Gatten spent her first two seasons at Southampton Academy scoring primarily on layups and drives to the basket; she has since worked on her jump shot and now steadily scores from that as well; and
WHEREAS, Gabby Gatten scored her 1,000th point with a jumper from the left sideline in the first quarter of a game between Southampton Academy and Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School; and
WHEREAS, Gabby Gatten averages 20 points per game and is a key player for the Southampton Academy team, which is 14 - 1 overall and leads the Virginia Commonwealth Conference at 10 - 1; and
WHEREAS, Gabby Gatten hopes to put her talents to use for the Lady Raiders in the state playoffs, as Southampton Academy is ranked number four in the Virginia Independent Schools Division III poll; and
WHEREAS, Gabby Gatten enjoys playing basketball and interacting with her teammates on the Southampton Academy team; she hopes to be able to play on the college level as well; and
WHEREAS, an excellent role model, Gabby Gatten demonstrates to others what hard work and determination can accomplish; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Gabby Gatten for scoring her 1,000th career point; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gabby Gatten as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her hard work and commitment to basketball.
