Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That § 23-9.2:3.7 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 23-9.2:3.7. Course credit and admission status; active duty military students.

The governing boards of each public institution of higher education shall implement policies that provide students called to active military duty during an academic semester with the opportunity (i) to return to the institution upon completion of the active duty military assignment, without having to reapply for readmission, and (ii) to earn full course credit. Such policies shall include, as one option, that such students who have completed 75 percent of the course requirements at the time of activation and who meet other specified requirements receive full course credit and that such students may defer acceptance to any of the institution's graduate programs until completion of the active duty military assignment.
