Commending the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team.

WHEREAS, the 2009 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team is commended for winning the Virginia Independent School Division II state football championship; and

WHEREAS, with a dominant defense, the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints shut out top-seeded Blue Ridge School (17 - 0) to take home its first state football championship since 2000; and

WHEREAS, the Saints held the Blue Ridge Barons to eight yards of total offense in the first half and forced five interceptions in the second half; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Lamm kicked a 28-yard field goal with only a few minutes left in the first half to put the Saints on the scoreboard; and

WHEREAS, in the second half, linebacker Ryan Serianni scooped up a fumble and ran 70 yards for the first touchdown for the Saints; and

WHEREAS, the second touchdown came with only one minute 52 seconds left in the game when running back Will Crenshaw rushed into the end zone; and

WHEREAS, the 2009 championship win is a fitting conclusion to a season of hard work and practice for the entire team and especially the team?s 10 seniors; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Saints is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Kevin Allen and his hard-working staff; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team for winning the Virginia Independent School Division II state football championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Kevin Allen as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2009 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team.
