HJ365: Commending Robert T. Chappell.

WHEREAS, Robert T. Chappell will retire as the exemplary superintendent of Rappahannock County Public Schools on June 30, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Robert Chappell received a bachelor?s degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, a master?s degree from the University of Virginia, and a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Chappell began his career as a seventh grade teacher in Buckingham County and served in various counties throughout the Commonwealth during his long and outstanding career; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Chappell was principal of Rappahannock County High School from 1982 to 1987 and served as assistant superintendent of Rappahannock County Public Schools from 1987 to 1994 before his return to the County as superintendent on July 1, 2003; and
WHEREAS, a respected and admired educator, Dr. Chappell has given numerous presentations to his fellow educators on the state and national level and has published several articles; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Chappell has generously given of his expertise and experience as a member of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents, Virginia School Boards Association, and the Critical Linkages II Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Chappell is well-known for his support of the students in Rappahannock County, attending as many school events as he can and proudly recognizing their accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, an inspiring leader and innovative administrator, Dr. Chappell has ably served as the superintendent of Rappahannock County Public Schools for the past seven years; and
WHEREAS, in retirement, Dr. Chappell will have more time to devote to playing bluegrass bass, enjoying golf, and serving in various community service organizations, including the Rappahannock County Lions Club; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend a dedicated educator and outstanding Virginian, Robert T. Chappell; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert T. Chappell as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect and admiration for his hard work and dedication on behalf of the youth of the Commonwealth and best wishes in his future endeavors.
