SJ209: Commending the City of Waynesboro, the City of Staunton, and the County of Augusta for their success


SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 209
Commending the City of Waynesboro, the City of Staunton, and the County of Augusta for their successful partnership with Augusta Health in sponsoring Unwanted Medication Collection Day.

WHEREAS, the first Unwanted Medication Collection Day was held on November 7, 2009, through the many efforts of the City of Waynesboro, the City of Staunton, and Augusta County; and

WHEREAS, Augusta Health, an exemplary medical center serving the residents of Augusta County and surrounding areas, was the sponsor of Unwanted Medication Collection Day; and

WHEREAS, the proper disposal of unwanted or expired medications helps preserve the health of rivers, streams, and lakes and protects the environment and natural resources of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the proper disposal of unwanted or expired medications helps to prevent the potential contamination of both surface water and ground water supplies; and

WHEREAS, the proper disposal of unwanted or expired medications helps minimize the storage and amount of unwanted medications in households, preventing accidental poisonings and potential unlawful distribution and use of unwanted medications; and

WHEREAS, Unwanted Medication Collection Day and the procedures developed by the City of Waynesboro, the City of Staunton, and Augusta County serve as a model for other communities to establish a program for proper disposal of unwanted and expired medications; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the City of Waynesboro, the City of Staunton, Augusta County, and the Augusta Health medical center on their outstanding partnership to make Unwanted Medication Collection Day a success in 2009; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to representatives of the Waynesboro City Council, the Staunton City Council, the Board of Supervisors of Augusta County, and the Board of Directors of Augusta Health as an expression of the General Assembly?s gratitude to the organizations for their commitment to the health and well-being of the citizens of the Commonwealth and best wishes for continued success of the Unwanted Medication Collection Day program.
