Commending the Reston Historic Trust.

WHEREAS, the Reston Historic Trust was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2010 Best of Reston award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, a community-based nonprofit organization, Reston Historic Trust works to sustain the unique history of the award-winning, innovative planned community of Reston; and

WHEREAS, with a motto of ?Engaging the Past, Informing the Present, and Influencing the Future,? the Reston Historic Trust engages the public in an exploration of community history; the group works diligently collecting, preserving, and interpreting the documents and artifacts of Reston?s history; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Historic Trust operates the storefront Reston Museum and Shop, which first opened to the public in 1997 at Lake Anne Village Center; the Reston Museum recently underwent a major renovation, which included the installation of a fabulous exhibit that encapsulates Reston?s story; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Historic Trust?s work has been initiated and maintained by the 14 volunteer members of the board of directors, the front desk docents, and a number of community members who have shared their knowledge and professional skills with the museum; and

WHEREAS, volunteers spend hundreds of hours each year archiving and maintaining the artifacts, developing and producing events, and managing Reston Historic Trust?s informational website; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Historic Trust presents a number of beloved community events, including the annual Reston Home Tour, which allows residents and visitors to tour the wonderful neighborhoods of Reston, and Reston Founder?s Day, a tribute to Robert E. Simon, the founder of Reston; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Historic Trust shares the story of the creation of Reston and celebrates Reston as a mosaic of many gifts and talents that together create a one-of-a-kind place where people can work, play, live, and thrive; this knowledge is then used as the basis for addressing development and challenges in the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Reston Historic Trust on its outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on its well-deserved honor as a 2010 Best of Reston award recipient; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reston Historic Trust as an expression of the General Assembly?s gratitude for its efforts on behalf of the community of Reston.
