Celebrating the life of Specialist Brian Michael Anderson, United States Army.

WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Brian Michael Anderson of Harrisonburg was killed in action on June 12, 2010, while serving in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Brian ?Bucky? Anderson was born on March 5, 1986, to loving parents Margaret and Kenny Anderson and was one of three siblings; and

WHEREAS, an active and strong young man, Bucky Anderson was a two-time state wrestling champion and three-year starter on the football team at Broadway High School before graduating in 2004; he went on to wrestle at James Madison University for the 2004 and 2005 teams; and

WHEREAS, Bucky Anderson joined the United States Army in 2008 and was a member of the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division based in Fort Drum, New York; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding soldier, Specialist Anderson had been stationed in Afghanistan for three months when the vehicle he was in hit an improvised explosive device; and

WHEREAS, respected by his colleagues and superiors, Specialist Anderson received many awards and accolades for his exemplary service, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, Specialist Anderson had a jovial personality that endeared him to others; he had many friends and admirers throughout his life and was known for his positive attitude and work ethic while serving his country; and

WHEREAS, Bucky Anderson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his parents, Margaret and Kenny; brother, Andy; sister, Jenny; numerous other family members and friends; and his comrades; and

WHEREAS, Specialist Anderson?s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm?s way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Specialist Brian Michael Anderson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Specialist Brian Michael Anderson as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his memory.
