Commending Gage Swartz.

WHEREAS, Gage Swartz finished his high school wrestling career at James Wood High School in Winchester by winning the Virginia High School League 2010 Group AA 119-pound weight state championship at the Salem Civic Center; and

WHEREAS, sustaining what could have been a career-ending injury his sophomore season, Gage Swartz broke his left elbow in the 2008 Region II tournament and was unable to return to the team until his senior year; and

WHEREAS, devoted to achieving his personal best, Gage Swartz dedicated himself to a full recovery, lifted weights to increase his strength, and trained year-round to hone his skills; and

WHEREAS, Gage Swartz found the winning combination of hard work, skill, and the fervent desire to win; he ended the regular season with a record of 40 wins, five losses, and 20 pins; and

WHEREAS, after placing first in his weight class for the Northwestern District and the Region II championships, Gage Swartz entered the Virginia state tournament, where Head Coach Greg Walker commended his intelligence and tenacity in every match; and

WHEREAS, hungry to win the state tournament, Gage Swartz faced two-time state champion Neal Kennedy of Blacksburg High School in the final match and defeated his opponent 6 - 2; and

WHEREAS, when the final whistle declared Gage Swartz the champion, he ended his high school career with a record of more than 190 wins; and

WHEREAS, a remarkable young man in many respects, Gage Swartz won an academic scholarship to West Virginia University, where he continues his wrestling career with the Mountaineers; and

WHEREAS, Gage Swartz?s outstanding success is due to his commitment to personal excellence and to the support of his family, coaches, friends, and teammates; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Gage Swartz for his Virginia High School League 2010 Group AA 119-pound weight state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gage Swartz as an expression of the General Assembly?s congratulations on his title and admiration for his excellent high school wrestling career.
