Commending the McLean Orchestra.

WHEREAS, for 40 years, the McLean Orchestra has immeasurably enriched the cultural life of the McLean community; and

WHEREAS, a member of the League of American Orchestras, the McLean Orchestra consistently through its history has been led by outstanding conductors and musical directors, particularly during its growth in professional excellence over the past several years; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Orchestra is being directed during the present anniversary season by distinguished guest conductors, including Emil de Cou, associate conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra; J. Ernest Green, conductor of the Annapolis Chorale and cover conductor for the National Symphony Orchestra; Christopher Hite, conductor of the Dominion Symphony Orchestra; and A. Scott Wood, Music Director and Conductor of the Arlington Philharmonic and the Amadeus Orchestra; and

WHEREAS, the 90 highly skilled members of the McLean Orchestra enhance the cultural life and musical knowledge of the McLean community with five seasonal concerts, a free community concert, the annual Patron?s Gala fundraiser and numerous small ensemble appearances, with innovative programming and renowned guest soloists performing a broad range of musical offerings including classical and pops orchestral works and chamber pieces; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Orchestra has joined with other organizations to enhance the quality of life in the community including the first Concert in the Park, conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Alan Sierich, former United States Air Force Band Director, presented together with the Friends of Clemyjontri in September 2010 to benefit the work of both the orchestra and of Clemyjontri Park, a place where children of all abilities are able to play side by side; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Orchestra supports as one of its highest priorities the McLean Youth Orchestra, a program of singular quality that provides 60 talented young musicians the opportunity to study and perform professional orchestral repertoire, participate in international exchange with a sister orchestra, the Chiba Youth Orchestra from Chiba, Japan, and challenge themselves in performance competitions; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Orchestra, led by a board of trustees comprised of local leaders from small businesses, corporations, universities, and civic organizations, remains a vital part of the McLean community and continues to entertain, enlighten, and enrich its appreciative and growing audiences; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the McLean Orchestra on the occasion of its 40th anniversary season in 2011 - 2012; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to McLean Orchestra?s board of trustees as an expression of the General Assembly?s congratulations and best wishes for continued success.
