Commending the McLean Youth Orchestra.

WHEREAS, in 2011 the McLean Youth Orchestra will celebrate nine years of cultural and artistic exchange with the Chiba Youth Orchestra in Japan and more than 25 years of developing the talent of young classical musicians; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1983, the McLean Youth Orchestra is a music education, development, and performance program open to musically advanced students between the ages of 12 and 18; and

WHEREAS, in addition to regular concert performance opportunities, the McLean Youth Orchestra offers Chamber Music Camp in the summer, college credit through Advanced Placement dual enrollment at Northern Virginia Community College, and community service opportunities; and

WHEREAS, the accomplished and dedicated members of the McLean Youth Orchestra have played for distinguished audiences such as the United States Congress for the Congressional Award ceremonies and in such renowned venues as Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Japan, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Youth Orchestra and the equally talented Chiba Youth Orchestra of Japan have partnered to develop an international cultural exchange program to expand and enrich the global musical experiences of their members; and

WHEREAS, for nine years, members of the McLean Youth Orchestra have traveled to Japan or opened their homes to members of the Chiba Youth Orchestra to share their daily lives and mutual love of classical music and to perform together in concert; and

WHEREAS, the McLean Youth Orchestra made its fourth journey to Japan on March 20, 2008, and will proudly host the Chiba Youth Orchestra in McLean in 2011; and

WHEREAS, under the guidance of Director Pauline Anderson and Conductor Deborah Volker, the McLean Youth Orchestra is preparing for the March 27, 2011, joint performance with the Chiba Youth Orchestra, led by Chairman Fumio Ogawa; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the McLean Youth Orchestra for its cultural and artistic exchange with the Chiba Youth Orchestra in Japan and for its dedication to developing the talent of young classical musicians; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Pauline Anderson, Director of the McLean Youth Orchestra, and Fumio Ogawa, Chairman of the Chiba Youth Orchestra, as an expression of the General Assembly?s appreciation for their efforts to develop strong international bonds through music.
