HJ884: Commending Harvey and Ellen Ussery.
WHEREAS, Harvey and Ellen Ussery of the Marshall District of Fauquier County were honored as 2010 Citizens of the Year by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, known throughout Fauquier County for their dedication to teaching citizens that food does not just come from a grocery store, Harvey and Ellen Ussery have adopted food production, soil conservation, and agricultural stewardship as a way of life; and
WHEREAS, Harvey and Ellen Ussery work to raise awareness of food safety, quality, and security and the importance of diversity and integration in food production; and
WHEREAS, while advocating for a return to self-reliant food production, Harvey and Ellen Ussery share articles, projects, and advice on their thoroughly modern website; and
WHEREAS, Harvey and Ellen Ussery provide information on topics including organic farming, herbs, livestock, composting, and gardens, with lessons they have learned on their quest to grow their own healthy foods; and
WHEREAS, Harvey and Ellen Ussery encourage everyone to become involved in the cultivation of their own food and offer suggestions for the establishment of window ledge gardens, poultry pens, beehives, orchards, greenhouses, and vegetable plots; and
WHEREAS, Harvey and Ellen Ussery possess a wealth of knowledge about raising poultry, which Harvey Ussery has compiled into book format; and
WHEREAS, Harvey and Ellen Ussery have demonstrated a wholehearted devotion to the development of small-scale agriculture in Fauquier County; and
WHEREAS, committed to making a difference in their community, Harvey and Ellen Ussery are outstanding role models and inspire others to volunteer and make Fauquier County a safer, friendlier, and more pleasant place in which to live; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Harvey and Ellen Ussery as 2010 Fauquier County Citizens of the Year for the Marshall District; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Harvey and Ellen Ussery as an expression of the General Assembly?s gratitude for their dedication to the community of Fauquier County.
