Commending Wayside Theatre.

WHEREAS, Virginia has a long and proud tradition of supporting the arts and various forms of artistic expression such as theatre, music, and the visual arts, which enrich the lives of citizens throughout our great Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Wayside Theatre, located in the Shenandoah Valley and founded in 1961, has been the home of over 300 productions with artists magically bringing stories to life through words and song, whether tragic or comedic, making the audience laugh or shed a tear; and

WHEREAS, in addition to providing professional theatrical entertainment to its many loyal patrons and occasional visitors, Wayside Theatre offers an Education In Action program that features a series of acting classes, a young playwright's competition, professional productions involving the community's youth, and in-school programs and mentoring, as well as internship opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Wayside Theatre plans to carry on its role in the community during its 50th Golden Anniversary Season by continuing to offer the highest quality professional entertainment and educational programs to the citizens of the Northern Shenandoah Valley and the surrounding areas; and

WHEREAS, Wayside Theatre is a landmark for thousands in the Shenandoah Valley and is one of Virginia?s most treasured cultural sites; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize Wayside Theatre for its many contributions to the lives of thousands of Virginians and countless visitors to whom its artists have brought boundless enjoyment through the magical entertainment that is live theatre; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Wayside Theatre on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wayside Theatre as an expression of the General Assembly?s congratulations and gratitude for the Theatre?s numerous contributions to the arts and culture in the Commonwealth.
