A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 33.1 a section numbered 33.1-223.2:25, relating to closure of certain bridges to motorcycles and mopeds during periods of high wind.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 33.1 a section numbered 33.1-223.2:25 as follows:

§ 33.1-223.2:25. Department to close certain bridges to use by motorcycles and mopeds during periods of high wind.

The Department of Transportation shall close the Virginia Route 17 James River Bridge, the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, the Coleman Bridge, and the Interstate Route 64 High Rise Bridge to use by motorcycles and mopeds whenever the Department shall have been advised by the National Weather Service in Wakefield that such facilities will be subject to high winds. The Department shall post conspicuous signs advising of such closure at sufficient distance in advance of the affected facilities to enable motorcyclists and moped riders to choose alternative routes.
