WHEREAS, Boston Properties was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2011 Best of Reston Award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the greater Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, a premier national developer and leading builder in Reston and Reston Town Center, Boston Properties sets an excellent example of how a corporation can successfully integrate community stewardship into its corporate culture; and

WHEREAS, Boston Properties? commitment to quality signature design has contributed to the vitality and economic health of Reston; its development philosophy goes beyond traditional bricks and mortar to efforts that enhance the quality of life for all who live and work in and visit the Reston community; and

WHEREAS, Boston Properties believes that its corporate success is an opportunity for the company and its employees to give back to the community and advance civic participation, a corporate philosophy embraced by employees at all levels of the organization; and

WHEREAS, this commitment is seen in Boston Properties? leadership role in advancing the organization of the Western Alliance for Rail to Dulles and gaining landowners? support for the complex legal and financial issues that would bring the Metro to the region; and

WHEREAS, Boston Properties has helped shape the future of the Reston community through its leadership participation in civic discussion including the Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force; and

WHEREAS, Boston Properties has helped preserve the history of the community and the key elements that contributed to the successful realization of Robert E. Simon?s vision for Reston?s ?downtown? through its sponsorship of a ?Lesson Learned? series captured forever in Reston Museum exhibits and archives; and

WHEREAS, Boston Properties has supported the vision of the town center as a neighborhood space to foster community involvement and has created and funded partnerships with Reston Town Center organizations to host hundreds of charitable and community events that have contributed $3 million to charities each year; and

WHEREAS, Boston Properties employees serve on civic and nonprofit boards and commissions and engage their coworkers and community members in charitable issues of personal concern, including the Greater Reston Arts Center, the Initiative for Public Art in Reston, Neediest Kids, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?s ?Light the Night,? March for Babies, Toys for Tots, Reston Interfaith, cultural events for seniors and children, and many other organizations that contribute to the health and well-being of community members; and

WHEREAS, Boston Properties is a valuable partner of Reston, helping the community become a better place in which to live, work, and serve, and to enjoy, as well as providing an excellent model for other organizations across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Boston Properties for its outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on its well-deserved honor as a 2011 Best of Reston Award recipient; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Boston Properties as an expression of the General Assembly?s appreciation of its many achievements and best wishes for continued success.
