A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 2.2-602.1 and by adding in Article 5 of Chapter 9 of Title 15.2 a section numbered 15.2-982, relating to enforcement of federal immigration law by the Commonwealth and by political subdivisions of the Commonwealth.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 2.2-602.1 and by adding in Article 5 of Chapter 9 of Title 15.2 a section numbered 15.2-982 as follows:

§ 2.2-602.1. Enforcement of federal immigration law by agencies and political subdivisions of the Commonwealth.

No agency of the Commonwealth as defined in § 8.01-385 or political subdivision of the Commonwealth as defined in § 8.01-385, or employee of either of them acting in his official capacity, may limit or restrict the enforcement of federal immigration laws to less than the full extent permitted by federal law.

§ 15.2-982. Enforcement of federal immigration law by localities.

No locality, or employee of a locality acting in his official capacity, may limit or restrict the enforcement of federal immigration laws to less than the full extent permitted by federal law.
