HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 416
Commending LINK, Inc.

WHEREAS, in 2012 LINK, Inc., will mark its 40th anniversary of providing emergency food and financial assistance to people in need in the Herndon, Sterling, and Ashburn communities; and

WHEREAS, formed in 1972, LINK originally supported Sterling and eastern Loudoun County communities; three years later, it expanded its services to include Herndon in Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, an all-volunteer organization, LINK member churches represent a wide variety of denominations that partner with businesses, schools, organizations, and individuals; and

WHEREAS, LINK works with area businesses to coordinate employee service days, local grocery stores to pick up food, other service organizations to distribute food, and, in 2012, area public schools to distribute unused cafeteria food; and

WHEREAS, LINK also hosts a Holiday Basket program twice a year, with families receiving a supply of food, grocery gift cards, gently used winter clothing, and new toys; and

WHEREAS, in 2011 LINK provided 13,700 individuals with food sufficient for five to seven days and gave $69,000 in grocery gift cards and $18,520 in financial assistance for rent and utilities; and

WHEREAS, LINK has won numerous awards and recognitions for its commitment to address hunger in the community, including the 2005 Victory Against Hunger Award from the Congressional Hunger Center and Victory Wholesale Grocers and 2005 Outstanding Organization Award from the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, for 40 years, LINK has enjoyed the generous and thoughtful support of caring churches, individuals, organizations, and businesses that have worked together to help those in need; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend LINK, Inc., on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to LINK, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly?s congratulations and admiration for the organization?s commitment to serving the community.
