Commending Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 27, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, located in Ashburn, is commended for its efforts to integrate the Foreign Language in Elementary School program into its curriculum; and

WHEREAS, Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, led by principal Michele J. Freeman, embraces a culturally diverse population that proudly reflects the creative energy and vitality of the surrounding community; and

WHEREAS, the Foreign Language in Elementary School (FLES) program is based on the principles that children can readily learn a second language in an environment similar to that of their native language, understand the concept of culture through comparisons of culture, and reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through second language acquisition; and

WHEREAS, students at Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School learn to respect others, themselves, and property in an innovative, caring, and respectful environment that focuses on strong academics; and

WHEREAS, teachers, staff, and administration strive to educate children so that they become independent thinkers, problem solvers, and the next generation of caring, contributing citizens; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School hereby be commended on its Foreign Language in Elementary School program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michele J. Freeman, principal of Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, as an expression of the House of Delegates? appreciation for the school?s commitment to providing a global education to its students.
