Commending the Reverend Charles Grant.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 27, 2012

 

WHEREAS, the Reverend Charles Grant, a longtime resident of Loudoun County, is commended for founding the Good Shepherd Alliance, a Christian-based emergency housing program; and

WHEREAS, in 1969 the Reverend Charles Grant moved to Sterling and, over the past four decades, has dedicated himself to helping out in the community; and

WHEREAS, the Reverend Charles Grant served for four years on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, from 1992 through 1995, helping bolster the county?s growing economic engine during his tenure; and

WHEREAS, since 1979, the Reverend Charles Grant has faithfully been on call 24 hours a day for the Loudoun County Sheriff?s Office, arriving at scenes to provide support for the families of victims; he also serves as a senior chaplain for the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, the Reverend Charles Grant also runs a ?mobile canteen,? which provides food and beverages to personnel working a scene; and

WHEREAS, in 1983 the Reverend Charles Grant founded the Good Shepherd Alliance to provide emergency housing and support for homeless residents of Loudoun County; it also provides affordable transportation with the Virginia Regional Transit service; and

WHEREAS, the Good Shepherd Alliance currently operates a 20-bed emergency shelter for women and children; residents participate in a Six Steps to Self-Sufficiency program, an intensive case management program geared toward helping families in crisis become self-sufficient; and

WHEREAS, the Good Shepherd Alliance also runs Mary?s House of Hope Transitional Home for single mothers and a food pantry that receives generous support from local individuals, organizations, and restaurants; and

WHEREAS, the Reverend Charles Grant remains involved in the work of Good Shepherd Alliance, putting the disadvantaged in contact with others who can help and providing rides to those in need; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Reverend Charles Grant hereby be commended for his work to help those in need by founding the Good Shepherd Alliance; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Charles Grant as an expression of the House of Delegates? appreciation for his service to the community.
