Celebrating the life of Mary Carol Matt Beirne.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 18, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Mary Carol Matt Beirne, the matriarch of a large and loving family who made many contributions to civic and community affairs in Richmond while also running a successful business, died on April 13, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Carol Beirne was the senior class president and proud alumna of the Class of 1955 at Saint Gertrude High School and attended the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, Carol Beirne returned to her hometown, where she raised her family of seven children with her husband, Jack, with whom she also owned and operated the Beirne Corporation for more than 50 years; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Carol Beirne devoted countless hours to supporting her children and grandchildren through involvement in parent-teacher associations and other school, church, and community activities; and

WHEREAS, Carol Beirne and her husband enjoyed a true partnership, sharing family life and their successful business endeavor supplying sacramental altar wine to churches throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Carol Beirne touched the lives of countless individuals with her sweet spirit and thoughtful manner, making and keeping friends throughout her life and taking particular pleasure in reuniting with old classmates from Saint Gertrude High School; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by one of her daughters, Julia Ann, Carol Beirne will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, Jack; surviving children, John, Milton, Christy, Ruppert, Ida, and Matt, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a gracious lady, successful business owner, and community supporter, Mary Carol Matt Beirne; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mary Carol Matt Beirne as an expression of the House of Delegates? respect for her memory.
