Commending Amanda H. Redd.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, May 14, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Amanda H. Redd has made many valuable contributions to higher education in Southern Virginia during her tenure on the board of directors of New College Institute in Martinsville; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Hampton University, Amanda Redd taught elementary school in Henry and Prince George Counties and the City of Norfolk before beginning a second career in the real estate industry; and

WHEREAS, an active member of the community, Amanda Redd served on the boards of the Virginia 4-H Foundation, Anchor Commission, Imperial Savings and Loan Association, and Office on Youth and is a member of Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, a firm believer in the importance of higher education and committed to the well-being of Southern Virginia residents, Amanda Redd has been a vital member of the board of directors of New College Institute since its inception in 2006; and

WHEREAS, as chair of the New College Institute?s Educational Outreach Committee, Amanda Redd has overseen outreach efforts to local elementary and high school students and community members to emphasize the importance of higher education and the offerings of New College Institute; and

WHEREAS, passionate about New College Institute?s mission and work, Amanda Redd has compiled an impressive attendance record during her tenure of service, with only one board meeting absence since her appointment; and

WHEREAS, Amanda Redd, as one of New College Institute?s first board members, has helped lay the foundation for the institute?s future success through her hard work and leadership; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Amanda H. Redd hereby be commended for her distinguished service on the board of directors of New College Institute; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Amanda H. Redd as an expression of the House of Delegates? appreciation for her commitment to higher education.
