Celebrating the life of James Frederick Flint.

WHEREAS, James Frederick Flint, a veteran of the Vietnam War and distinguished attorney from Alexandria, died on December 29, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a fifth generation Washingtonian, James ?Jim? Flint grew up in Washington, D.C.; Wellesley, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; and St. Louis, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, a hardworking student, Jim Flint earned a bachelor?s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master?s degree from Harvard University before joining the United States Army in 1967; and

WHEREAS, stationed at Fort Myer, Jim Flint was a member of the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment, the Old Guard, which conducts ceremonies and special events; he participated in the official ceremonies for President Eisenhower?s state funeral and President Nixon?s first inauguration; and

WHEREAS, respected by his fellow officers and soldiers, Jim Flint served as a first lieutenant and infantry platoon leader while stationed in Vietnam as part of the 198th Light Infantry Brigade, earning a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and an Army Commendation Medal; and

WHEREAS, after his exemplary military service, Jim Flint returned to the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area, settling in Alexandria and earning a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center; and

WHEREAS, a brilliant attorney, Jim Flint specialized in transportation law, practicing for 30 years and providing his clients with expert knowledge; and

WHEREAS, Jim Flint earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, who elected him as president of the Transportation Lawyers Association and honored his contributions with a Lifetime Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Jim Flint will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Bridget; children, Ned, Thomas, and Ryan, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a distinguished attorney and Vietnam War veteran, James Frederick Flint; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Frederick Flint as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his memory.
