Commending Steven G. Bowman.

WHEREAS, Steven G. Bowman will retire from the Virginia Marine Resources Commission on April 1, 2012, after 30 years of exemplary service to the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Steven G. ?Steve? Bowman spent most of his career in law enforcement, having served with the Surry County Sheriff?s Office, the Isle of Wight Sheriff?s Office, the Smithfield Police Department, and the Virginia State Police; and

WHEREAS, Steve Bowman served as Chief or Deputy Chief of the Virginia Marine Police, the Law Enforcement Division of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, from 1992 to 2006, overseeing one of the oldest law-enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, Steve Bowman was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Steve Bowman was appointed Commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission by Governor Timothy M. Kaine and was reappointed by Governor Robert F. McDonnell in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Steve Bowman?s unparalleled commitment and devotion to public service won him respect and admiration from his colleagues and associates on many occasions; and

WHEREAS, Steve Bowman?s leadership and stewardship resulted in remarkable improvements to the Commonwealth?s natural resources, particularly to blue crab and oyster stocks; and

WHEREAS, Steve Bowman?s professionalism and amiable spirit will be sorely missed by the staff of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him; and

WHEREAS, Steve Bowman can now savor his well-deserved retirement, spending more time with his family and friends and fully enjoying his role as husband, father, boater, angler, and hunter; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Steven G. Bowman on his devoted and time-honored service to the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Steven G. Bowman as an expression of the General Assembly?s appreciation for his hard work and dedication and best wishes for success in the next chapter in his life.
