HJ707: Commending Greg Moffitt.
WHEREAS, Greg Moffitt, a member of the 2012 Class at Randolph-Macon College, has inspired others with his commitment to overcoming obstacles and embracing life’s opportunities despite being blind; and
WHEREAS, Greg Moffitt, the son of Tom and Vicki Moffitt of King George County, chose to attend Randolph-Macon College after taking a tour and experiencing firsthand the welcoming environment and strong sense of pride in the school felt by its students; and
WHEREAS, Greg Moffitt, a Presidential Scholar at Randolph-Macon College also earned scholarships from the National Federation of the Blind and the Lions Club; he majored in philosophy and political science with the goal of eventually earning a doctorate in philosophy and teaching at the college level; and
WHEREAS, when offered the unique opportunity to teach a philosophy class at Randolph-Macon College, Greg Moffitt welcomed the chance, gaining valuable experience in front of his peers; and
WHEREAS, Greg Moffitt was a member of the pre-law society and president of the college chapter of College Republicans, volunteered his time and energy with the local chapter of Ruritan National in King George County, and completed an internship in a local Commonwealth’s Attorney office; and
WHEREAS, a talented pianist who has been taking lessons since he was a young child, Greg Moffitt has played for his fellow students, hometown church, and at various concerts; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic Yellow Jacket, Greg Moffitt was a familiar presence on campus with his black and lemon cane and demonstrated his tremendous school spirit at games and special events throughout his undergraduate career; and
WHEREAS, an inspiring role model, Greg Moffitt spoke at his commencement ceremony, sharing fond memories of his first visit to the campus; thanking administrators, staff, and faculty; and encouraging his fellow students to embrace the challenges and opportunities offered in life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Greg Moffitt on the occasion of his graduation from Randolph-Macon College for his triumphant spirit; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Greg Moffitt as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his positive example and best wishes in his future endeavors.
