HJ771: Commending Danny Joyce.
WHEREAS, Danny Joyce, a Gloucester resident, collected several tons of food and other supplies for charitable organizations at the annual holiday light display at his house; and
WHEREAS, with more than 650,000 lights and dozens of inflatables, the dazzling holiday light display at Danny Joyce’s house has delighted attendees from around the area for over a decade; and
WHEREAS, for the 2012 show, Danny Joyce included more lights than ever before, covering his entire house with lights and synchronizing the display to music; and
WHEREAS, Danny Joyce also hosted his annual driveway party on December 14, 2012, with attendees enjoying the lights, free food, hot chocolate, and shows by local performers; and
WHEREAS, Danny Joyce encourages the countless visitors who view the lights between Thanksgiving night and New Year’s night to donate to one or more of the local organizations supported by the event; and
WHEREAS, every year, visitors graciously give donations to several organizations, including the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula, the Bread for Life Community Food Pantry, the Gloucester-Mathews-Middlesex Humane Society, and five local church pantries; and
WHEREAS, in 2012 Danny Joyce helped those and other organizations collect over nine and a half tons of nonperishable food donations; and
WHEREAS, Danny Joyce raises the holiday spirit in the community while providing much-appreciated support to important charitable organizations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Danny Joyce for his extremely successful efforts to collect food and supplies for charitable organizations; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Danny Joyce as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his hard work and concern for the well-being of others.
