HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 133
Commending the Paul Harris family.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 21, 2013

 

WHEREAS, Paul Harris, the son of Chuck and Cindy Harris, passed away on September 20, 2006, at the age of 18 and gave the gift of life as an organ, eye, and tissue donor; and

WHEREAS, Paul Harris’ gifts of life included life-saving organ transplants of both kidneys and his liver, corneas that restored sight for two people, heart valves that went to three individuals, and tissue donation that enhanced the lives of more than 70 others; and

WHEREAS, Paul Harris was dedicated and active in soccer at Great Bridge High School; a member of Boy Scout Troop 57, where he received the honor of Eagle Scout; and an active and valued member in Young Life; and

WHEREAS, Chuck and Cindy Harris, as donor parents, have become active volunteers for LifeNet Health and Donate Life Virginia, with Cindy serving as the donor family representative for the Virginia Transplant Council; and

WHEREAS, Chuck and Cindy Harris shared the story of their son, Paul, in the “Recycle Your Life” campaign in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of being an organ, eye, and tissue donor for all high school students throughout Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Cindy Harris has been featured as a Donor Mom in statewide campaigns, such as “Be a Hero”; and

WHEREAS, the activities, speaking engagements, and dedication to awareness have increased overall understanding and need as well as increased registration of organ donors across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, as Cindy and Chuck Harris share the story of Paul, his memory and his gifts are a continuing example of generosity and how one individual’s choice to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor can save or enhance the quality of life for numerous individuals; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Paul Harris family on its work to help others; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chuck and Cindy Harris as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for their son, Paul, and his gift of life and the Harris’ continued work in his memory.
