Description

Mandatory minimum sentences to be served consecutively; penalty. Currently, the Code is inconsistent as some crimes that require a mandatory minimum sentence require that such sentences be served consecutively while others do not. Read the Bill »

Comments

ACLU-VA Criminal Justice, tracking this bill in Photosynthesis, notes:

The ACLU of Virginia generally opposes laws establishing mandatory minimum sentences. This bill would require that mandatory minimums be served consecutively further limiting judicial discretion.
