Commending Doug Bushée.

WHEREAS, Doug Bushée was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2013 Best of Reston Award in the Individual Community Member category; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the greater Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated member of the Reston community, Doug Bushée began his volunteer efforts in Reston as a mentor at the Laurel Learning Center in 1985; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Doug Bushée expanded his community service efforts, taking a leadership role in numerous organizations; and

WHEREAS, from 2000 to 2006, Doug Bushée served on the board of directors for the Reston Association, including two years as vice president; he worked to update the organization’s governing documents, improve park land and facilities, and encourage the construction of the Nature House; and

WHEREAS, in 2007, Doug Bushée organized the Reston Sprint Triathlon to benefit Reston Interfaith; the popular event draws more than 1,000 athletes and volunteers and has raised over $130,000 since its inception; and

WHEREAS, also in 2007, Doug Bushée founded the CORE Foundation to help volunteers in the community who wanted to raise money for charitable causes under a 501(c)(3); the foundation brings together organizations, professionals, and volunteers to better the community; and

WHEREAS, committed to helping others use their talents to benefit the Reston area, Doug Bushée also spent three years on the board of Leadership Fairfax, which trains successful leaders on how to effect positive change in the community; and

WHEREAS, an inspiring leader and role model, Doug Bushée teaches young baseball and soccer players the skills of the game and the importance of hard work, respect for others, and doing their best; and

WHEREAS, Doug Bushée has devoted countless hours to serving his fellow residents and playing a key role in making Reston a great place in which to live, work, and play; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Doug Bushée on his many contributions to Reston and on his well-deserved honor as a 2013 Best of Reston Award recipient in the Individual Community Member category; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Bushée as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for his tireless dedication to Reston.
