Description
Elections; definition of "party" or "political party." Changes the definition of "party" or "political party" to mean an organization of citizens of the Commonwealth that, at either of the two preceding statewide general elections, received at least four percent of the total vote cast for any statewide office filled in that election. Currently, the threshold is 10 percent of the total vote cast for any statewide office filled at either of the two preceding statewide general elections. Read the Bill »

Comments
The ACLU of Virgina supports legislation that expands opportunities for individuals to effectively to participate in our democracy.
This will never pass because it does not serve the interests of the parties of the members who will be voting. That said, it would go a long way toward making third party candidacies more viable in the future.
