HB1907: Electoral boards; required reporting to Department of Elections.
HOUSE BILL NO. 1907
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 3 of Chapter 1 of Title 24.2 a section numbered 24.2-109.2 as follows:
§ 24.2-109.2. Required reporting to the Department of Elections.
A. The electoral board shall report the following to the Department of Elections no later than 30 days prior to any election: (i) the number of full-time and part-time employees in the office of the general registrar, (ii) the number of officers of election who have completed required training within the past year and the number of officers of election expected to be assigned for the upcoming election, and (iii) the number of voting systems in inventory, the make and model of each system, and the number of voting systems expected to be used at the upcoming election. The general registrar and the officers of election shall assist the electoral board in the gathering of the required information, as requested by the electoral board.
B. The electoral board shall report the following to the Department of Elections no later than 30 days after any election: (i) the make and model of any voting system that became inoperative during the election, including those systems that were able to be repaired on site; (ii) the number of provisional ballots that were cast at the election and the reason why each provisional ballot was provided; and (iii) the number of provisional ballots that were rejected and the reason for each rejection. The general registrar and the officers of election shall assist the electoral board in the gathering of the required information, as requested by the electoral board.
C. The Department of Elections shall make available on its website those reports required by subsections A and B.
