Celebrating the life of Joseph Licari.

WHEREAS, Joseph Licari of Chesapeake, a respected veteran who devoted his life to supporting fellow members of the United States military, died on September 26, 2014; and

WHEREAS, a native of Philadelphia, Joseph Licari honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Licari pursued a rewarding 20-year career with USA Discounters, a Virginia Beach-based company that helps individuals and families build and rebuild credit and purchase brand-name products; and

WHEREAS, under Joseph Licari’s leadership, USA Discounters, now known as USA Living, supported countless military and community events in Hampton Roads; he also helped provide furniture to all USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia Centers; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Licari worked to enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents as a board member of the Navy League of Hampton Roads, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, and the Chisholm House and a supporter of the Armed Services YMCA; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Licari empowered others to become active, generous members of the community; he founded the annual Virginia Beach Armed Forces Awards Luncheon, cofounded the Heroes at Home awards program, and contributed to the 5-Star Military Family Recognition Luncheon, the Military Citizen of the Year program, and the Valor Awards for Public Safety program; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Licari cared deeply for his family, and he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Karen; children, David, Ryan, Cindy, Kim, Jennifer, and Jessica, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Joseph Licari, a proud veteran and a devoted supporter of current and former members of the United States military; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joseph Licari as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
