WHEREAS, John B. Davis of Fishersville, who proudly helped residents of Augusta County understand the legal system as the clerk of the Augusta County Circuit Court, retired in 2015 after more than four decades of service to the community; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Wilson Memorial High School, John Davis earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from James Madison University; he began his professional career with Augusta County Public Schools, preparing students for higher education, careers, and citizenship as a teacher, counselor, and administrator; and

WHEREAS, John Davis gained a wealth of knowledge about the local court system while working as a part-time real estate professional; desirous to be of further service to the community, he ran for and was elected as clerk of the Augusta County Court; and

WHEREAS, taking office in 1983, John Davis often served as the point of contact for residents with routine legal needs or obligations, such as wills, marriage licenses, permits, or requests for records; he also handled civil and criminal cases throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, John Davis valued his interactions with the public, always striving to be friendly and helpful and working to process requests efficiently and effectively; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his 31-year career as clerk, John Davis proudly implemented programs to bring the office into the modern age through the use of technology; by 2014, all records had been stored and catalogued digitally to better serve the public; and

WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, John B. Davis plans to spend more time with his wife, Patrice, and their two grown sons; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John B. Davis on the occasion of his retirement as clerk of the Augusta County Circuit Court; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John B. Davis as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his diligent service to the residents of Augusta County and best wishes on a happy retirement.
