Commending Leadership Metro Richmond.

WHEREAS, in 2015, Leadership Metro Richmond celebrates 35 years of connecting and educating a diverse group of community leaders to inspire them to serve the Richmond region; and

WHEREAS, the goal of Leadership Metro Richmond, which was founded in 1980, is to harness the shared passion of emerging and established community, civic, and business leaders for the betterment of the community; and

WHEREAS, Leadership Metro Richmond began as a project of the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce; from the beginning, its goal was to connect a diverse group of emerging leaders to examine the challenges facing the region, to provide multiple perspectives on those challenges, and to seek possible solutions; and

WHEREAS, understanding divergent viewpoints and respecting all opinions have been important goals of Leadership Metro Richmond; in addition to bringing community leaders together, the organization holds workshops and conferences and sponsors speaker series and social events; and

WHEREAS, people from all parts of the Richmond region come together for thoughtful discussion of issues affecting the area; Leadership Metro Richmond’s activities also provide opportunities for networking and community engagement with a goal of inspiring collaboration, inclusion, and service; and

WHEREAS, today, hundreds of Leadership Metro Richmond alumni occupy key positions in business, government, education, nonprofit organizations, and numerous other groups; members are decision makers who influence many important issues affecting those who live and work in the region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Leadership Metro Richmond for 35 years of connecting and educating a diverse group of community leaders to inspire them to serve the Richmond region; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Myra Goodman Smith, president and chief executive officer of Leadership Metro Richmond, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for its work to harness the shared passion of emerging and established leaders for the betterment of the greater Richmond community and the Commonwealth.
